To what end – GBV

To what end – GBV

Each year, Ubusha Bami does a Gender based Violence (GBV) awareness series on social media as well as a feature in our creators club contact sessions. As we reflect on our organizational patterns, we have had this feature every year since our non-profit went live. So questions are, ‘Have we made an impact?’, ‘Also why GBV?’ and maybe more directly, ‘to what end – GBV?’

Impact – When we join in on the nationwide campaigns against GBV its fair to say the noise is already quite loud. Thus, the measure of impact is also skewed cause were essential hoping onto a moving train. so, its with much honestly that we must admit that our impact is not made on the social media contribution. What we have seen is our small impact is seen in our one-on-one contact sessions. The creators club sessions with young people.

Why GBV? – When we look at the dynamic spectrum of sexual and reproductive health education, GBV forms part of that dynamic. Unfortunately most GBV incidences often include a sexual violation element. This introduces GBV as a relevant safety SRSH topic. Moreover, it reminds us of how psychosocial-economical factors have hands and feet in SRH wellbeing.

So to what end? – That’s an interesting ask… There is no end to advocacy. As long as a social issue continues we can not remain silent or indifferent. It is a grave mistake to either play ostrich hide and seek or approach as a damsel in distress when it comes to any social disorder. To hide social disorders is wrong and to assume salvation is coming from somewhere is delusional.

There is no end to advocacy against GBV.
