Mandy started Ubusha Bami from a love of health education, young people and the need to close gaps in youth health knowledge.

Ubusha Bami began with a commitment to make health education more accessible, relevant and engaging for young people. We recognised a gap between the health information young people need and the support they often receive when navigating questions about their bodies, relationships, choices and futures.
Our work starts with sexual and reproductive health because it is connected to so many parts of young people’s lives. Through education, conversation and creative media, we create opportunities for young people to learn without shame, ask difficult questions and develop practical tools for making informed decisions.

We are proud to serve the South African community holistically. We also know that meaningful change begins somewhere. For us, sexual and reproductive health is a practical starting point for wider conversations about wellbeing, agency, gender, relationships and dignity.
We want every young person to have the confidence to say, in their own voice, who they are and what they choose. We hope to contribute positively to the challenges affecting our communities, including gender-based violence and rape culture, through knowledge, dialogue and responsible participation.

We address a broad range of sexual and reproductive health topics for young people while keeping the experience practical, thoughtful and engaging. Our multimedia approach gives readers, listeners and creators different ways to encounter the work and stay connected to the conversation.
Ubusha Bami means “my youth, and this is me”. It is an invitation to take ownership of learning, to speak with greater confidence and to find a place in the conversation.
