What is a green house with a white house inside the green house, a red house inside the white house, and lots of babies inside the red house?

As we grow, some of us find it hard to figure out what everything means. We have a lot of questions about what’s happening to our bodies, why our friends act strange sometimes, and why boys like girls and girls like boys and some people just don’t like anyone.

A lot of things are like the riddle we just read. Do you have an answer for my riddle above?

Let us think together. Could there actually be 3 houses in one big green house? And who keeps many babies in a red house, anyways? Maybe the answer is not a house… maybe the answer is something that holds something? Maybe a container? What exists that has all these colours?

If you haven’t figured it out, the answer is: A watermelon! That’s right, a watermeloooooon. LoL. The green outer skin, white flesh and finally red juicy flesh with many, many little black seeds.

If you were confused at first don’t worry, so was I. Sometimes even adults are still confused about things like their bodies, their friends and relationships –  just like you. But this is why reading, watching and writing your thoughts about the things happening in your life is important. This page is designed just for you. This page is for all the boys and girls  (13-15 year old) who want to learn more about their bodies and behaviours towards others. This page is also for parents of early-teens who want creative ideas on how to discuss sensitive topics with their early-teens.

Sometimes when you are unsure you give wrong answers, sometimes when you don’t understand you make mistakes, but when we talk about our confusion and start to think and reason together we can solve a lot of problems – just like we did the riddle. Both early-teens and parents figuring out more about our bodies, our friendships and other relationships helps us make fewer mistakes and equips us with good answers when faced with challenging situations.

So, let’s get started. Ask an adult you trust to help you solve these riddles, work together and see how many you can get right.

  1. What is it that has a bottom at the top of them?
  2. What can make an octopus laugh?
  3. What happens four times in  teenager life, once in adult life and never in childhood?
  4. I’m tall when I’m young and I’m short when I’m old. What am I?

Share your answers. We’d love to see what you come up with. Also don’t forget to share and like the page.
